Instagram post 2152685875522319898_16640364745 Waiting with @wilkeaxel for election results like...😬😬
Instagram post 2147606390607428627_16640364745 This time next week, the future of local government in Aotearoa for the next 3 years will be set! Have you voted to play your part in determining that future?! #vote2019
@wilkeaxel and I voting this week - feeling all the feels of amazing possibilities, excitement, anticipation, exhaustion.....😂 etc. Two ticks FOR THE COMMON GOOD!! 🌏💧🌱🌳👶
Instagram post 2144020452283146896_16640364745 Woohoo! Another day, another important survey where @wilkeaxel and I come out on top for our ward again. Thanks so much to the Public Health Association (PHA Canterbury-West Coast Branch) for doing the hard yards in critically assessing us ECan candidates and providing yet another valuable tool to help voters see through the pics and the short booklet blurbs and into the substance (...or lack of!)👏👏👏 #vote4thecommongood #healthofpeopleandplanet
Instagram post 2143499910543206183_16640364745 Snapshots of a classic campaign-filled weekend 🤩 me n the dream team hitting the pavements and doors coming across so many wonderful and supportive voters (thank you!!!); took the stage at Phillipstown's 'Grill the candidates' meet with my compadre @wilkeaxel (and big ups to all my fellow candidates who show up and put your hand up to contribute!); and was opening speaker at @the.conscious.club alongside some super inspirational characters playing their part in creating a better planet 🌏❤ Chch you're awesome x
Instagram post 2142109349416515685_16640364745 Still buzzing from today's @schoolstrikeforclimatechch March!! So incredible seeing over 8000 people come together (joining 170,000 around NZ, and millions around the globe!) demanding climate justice. Loved being approached by so many awesome people saying they had voted for @wilkeaxel and I 👏👏 I was way too busy losing my voice cheering on the speakers and talking to people to take a snap so thanks cynthia for the pic before everything got started 😆 #ourfuture #climatestrike #nothingtosmileabout
Instagram post 2141357438778211110_16640364745 @genzeronz election score cards are out! And I am well chuffed that @wilkeaxel and I have been confirmed as the 'A' team! 🤩🤩 ....equally stoked to be the only candidate across ECan, CCC and Community Board that scored a straight 'A' 😌 ...I can't tell you at this point in time how nice it is to be recognised for putting in the hard yards in the climate space. So much more to come if Axel and I can make it across the line! Get your vote on people!! ...and hope to see you at the Intergenerational Climate Strike 1pm tomorrow Cathedral Square!
#vote4thecommongood "We marked highly for well-thought-out policies as we believe the time for concrete climate action is upon us. We also asked for one specific policy that candidates would advocate for. It was very tough to get an A and we gave very few of them out." An 'A' grading means: 'Shows genuine commitment and initiative and is likely to champion climate-smart policies on their own'
Instagram post 2137871017908008019_16640364745 Voting papers are out!!Totally overwhelmed with msgs of support from people already getting their vote on for me and @wilkeaxel and the common good!! 👏✊ The shaded area is within our ward, so if you or anyone you know lives here - we would love to rep you! #vote4thecommongood
Instagram post 2133089556310903425_16640364745 Selfie fail during a sunny patch amongst the drizzle at my local opawa market this morning with these awesome ladies, people, bikes and dogs 🌧⛅☀️ ..meanwhile @wilkeaxel and team door knock in St Albans! We love being out there talking about what it's going to take to turn ECans environmental governance around, and how we plan to do it! #vote4thecommongood
Instagram post 2122985959455793732_16640364745 Here's me enduring the 'demands' 😄 of being out campaigning in the glorious spring sunshine this weekend! 🍔🍔 We were at @wilkeaxel 's local - Riccarton market yesterday and my local - Opawa market today. Love being out there meeting and talking with you about who we are, why we're running for ECan and why it's so critical we all vote!! Amazing how many people have spotted and recognised our faces around town...go the eyeball burning orange 😂#vote4thecommongood #springhassprung
Instagram post 2109251024735780262_16640364745 Ooo @wilkeaxel first (known) artistic addition to our billboards has come in! 🎨Let's assess:

Creative flair: 2/10. A classic black tag keeping in-line with the wider colour palette and fluidity of 'the common good' font.
Offensive meter: 0/10. Artist very considerate in placement to ensure minimal disruption to the seeing of faces and reading of the text.
Overall grade: 6/10: Clearly a fan/potential voter aiming to enhance rather than detract from our message. A good starting point. Well done 👌🏽

Instagram post 2108762045913600040_16640364745 Had an awesome evening hanging out with the incredible staff and fellow mentors of @bigbrothersbigsisterschch. So inspired by the everyday actions of BBBS who are totally committed to making a positive difference in young peoples lives. If you think you might have some time and energy to give to buddying up with a young person, get in touch with BBBS, and perhaps as I've found, you might just find your young person mentoring you...😂❤
Instagram post 2107155311960997954_16640364745 What rain...?! 🤷‍♀️ Hunted out the perfect site backing onto dyers rd 🐺 Had a 100% success rate today thanks to so many generous folk keen to see environmental improvement. Instagram post 2106369646495015745_16640364745 We're in a climate emergency. We need to take action. Who puts the pressure on society, leaders and governments to act? People. Today, these brave people. So happy to be there to support @extinctionrebellion with their action today blocking the transport of coal to Lyttelton port. This is just the beginning of XR's action on coal. Will you be part of securing a stable climate for tomorrows people? #blockcoal #xrotautahi
Instagram post 2105814364232773137_16640364745 Was so thrilled to be the keynote speaker at the Keep Christchurch Beautiful Awards evening this week amongst so many phenomenal people in our Christchurch community. From Colin's 'Garden to table' project at Riccarton Primary School to the School Strike 4 Climate Christchurch team, Eastern Drycleaners and many others...you are all incredible. Thank you for everything you do for people and the planet!🤩🌏🌿
Instagram post 2104329512962496379_16640364745 Checkout the concentration on these amazing people's faces! 😂 Loved being part of painting the 'old person' version of this beautiful Tuna (Longfin eel) which will be part of an unveiling of multiple Tuna painted by students during Conservation week (Sept 20th) as part of @greeningtherubble's Riverbend Refuge project. I am so proud to be part of Working Waters Trust especially when we get to work with @enviroschools and our talented local artist Pops Baker 😍 #conservationstartswitheducation
Instagram post 2103557018911573684_16640364745 I was definitely guilty of feeling a rather smug sense of satisfaction in 'recycling' something but as The Press covered this weekend "Unfortunately, your plastics haven't miraculously disappeared forever. That big bin is not an incinerator, a magic box or a time machine that makes the detritus of our consumer society vanish into thin air...." We need to consume less, and start demanding both regulation in this space, and action from the companies which churn out the lowest cost packaging materials. #thereisnoaway #calloutplastic
Instagram post 2096216034134409956_16640364745 Big thanks to this lovely woman who took the time to write this to The Press today. We all need to play our part in using our voices and actions to bring about urgently needed change. Big ups of course to Nick and team from @greenpeacenz #enrol #vote
Instagram post 2091003457535553975_16640364745 Have we won the race already....?! 😆 @wilkeaxel and I first to submit our nominations for ECan Chch Central Ohoko ward. Make sure you're enrolled to join the election race at enrol.vote.nz #1stofftheblocks #enrol #vote

Instagram post 2148419830561184886_6802393802 The last of the leaflets has been delivered. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have freely given their time to help us get elected. And if you have not voted yet, please have your letter in the mail by Tuesday.

Instagram post 2147500223201723099_6802393802 Lan Pham ECan Councillor and I have done our civic duties. Do the same, and do it this weekend! Vote to have your say in the local elections. ☑️☑️ Voter participation is too low, and much lower than three years ago. So much of our life is determined by your local representatives. In many areas, local politics is more important than decisions in Wellington. Do yourselves a favour and vote this weekend. Have your voting forms in the mail by Tuesday at the latest to be sure that it gets to the electoral officer by next Saturday. Late forms, or those sitting on top of the fridge, won't count. 😕

When I’ve been out talking to voters, I constantly hear that people struggle most with the District Health Board elections. Whilst you can just leave your voting paper blank if you don’t want to participate in a particular part, my guess is that it stops people from voting at all.

Instagram post 2147420663772817406_6802393802 @lanpham.ecan and I spent an enjoyable 45 minutes talking politics with Matt and Lewis at RDU. It’s a long podcast (just over two hours) and the interview with us starts at 41:40 min.
Instagram post 2147417609572758878_6802393802 Lan and I are in the Press today. We can turn this around! ✊ Post your voting papers by next Tues (8 Oct) at the latest to ensure your vote is counted OR be sure to hand-deliver your voting forms to your local council office by noon on 12 October. If you haven’t received your voting papers or enrolled to vote you can still do so by casting a special vote. Remind your friends and family!! #VOTE (...ideally #vote4thecommongood 😉) Axel Wilke for ECan ”...said Cantabrians needed to seize democracy now, especially since this was the first time they could vote for a fully democratically-elected regional council since the Government sacked councillors in March 2010.

Existing ECan councillor Lan Pham, who is standing for re-election, said it was absolutely critical that citizens voted to elect a regional council that was most representative of Canterbury. "At this point the biggest contribution people can make is by voting."
